What happened in Downtown Dallas on July 7 was a shocking tragedy. You see these things on the news more and more recently, which is unfortunate, but it really hits hard this close to home. On the day of the shootings, I had been right there several hours earlier.
As I have been in Downtown the past few weeks, people have been carrying on as best they can. Downtown could have been a ghost town the week after this tragedy but that was not the case. Restaurants and retail shops are back open, office workers walk the streets and things seem pretty normal (all things considered).
Although it is difficult, it is critical that we stay positive and use times like these to grow stronger. Police Chief David Brown and Mayor Mike Rawlings, in my opinion, have done an excellent job of handling an impossible situation. There are clearly very complex issues we’re facing, not just in Dallas, but as a country. However, it is my hope that Dallas will lead and set an example for the rest of the United States.
